Our Pick and Pack Process

Every order that moves through our pick and pack warehouse follows a seven-step flow, refined over 23 years of continuous operation.

Order received.

Your platform pushes the order into our WMS in real time, the moment the customer checks out.

Pick list generated.

The system assigns the order to a picker based on zone, SKU location, and dispatch priority.

Pick-to-light picking.

The picker follows illuminated bin locations and confirms each SKU with a button press, eliminating the read-the-wrong-line errors that drag accuracy down in manual operations.

Quality check.

A second touch verifies SKU, quantity, and condition before the order moves to packing.

Custom packing.

Orders are packed to your brand specifications, with branded tissue, inserts, gift wrap, or plain mailers, as your account requires.

Labelling.

Carrier labels are generated, attached, and barcode-scanned to confirm the carrier and tracking number match the order.

Dispatch.

The parcel is handed to Australia Post, StarTrack, Sendle, or DHL, and the tracking number is pushed to your customer automatically.

Pick-to-Light Technology

Pick-to-light is a light-directed picking system used in large-scale retail distribution, and it's rarer than it should be in the Australian pick-and-pack services space. Most competitors still pick from paper lists or RF scanners. We don't.

Each bin in our warehouse has a small light module with a digit display and a confirmation button. When an order is released to a picker, the correct bins illuminate with the required quantities, and the picker confirms each SKU by pressing the button after picking. The system removes the most common source of warehouse errors: a human reading the wrong line on a pick sheet.

The difference is measurable. Manual pick-and-pack operations typically achieve 97% to 98% accuracy. Our pick-to-light operation runs at 99.9%, translating to roughly 10 errors per 10,000 orders, versus 200 to 300 in a manual environment. For a brand doing 10,000 orders a month, that's 200+ avoided customer service incidents, reshipments, and refund costs every month.

NPF has been a standout 3PL partner for us. Their barcode-driven system means inventory discrepancies are virtually nil, and their customer service team gets back to us quickly. We’ve had two account managers so far—both switched-on, resourceful and keen to sort things out quickly. The IT crew is just as sharp; any Shopify tweaks are handled almost straightaway. I toured the warehouse recently and was genuinely impressed by how clean and well-organised everything is. In short, NPF delivers the reliability and attention to detail we need so we can focus on brand growth. Only thing worth noting is we’ve had some issues with our other brand with large box items and mix ups with SKUs as they items are too big to be processed by their barcode system. Doesn’t happen at all with our smaller items though!
